What is Espaniños?
Espaniños is the International House USA
program in the Spanish language for young people. It has
been designed as a before-school or after-school program
for young learners between the ages of three and sixteen.
Our aim is to help non-Spanish speaking children learn to
love languages and speak Spanish confidently.
Why Espaniños?
The need for an effective and fun language course
for young learners is more evident than ever with school
budget cuts doing away with public support for languages
learning. Unfortunately, this comes at the time when your
child is most respective to language acquisition-that is
a learning a language before the age of 11 is easy for children.
Children are more able to acquire a native accent in the
target language and they do not struggle with the grammar
rules the way adult learners do.
IH has put its world-wide recognition in
the language training to the task of developing this Spanish
program for your child. We want your child to enjoy the
experience of learning a second language by using a sound
linguistic framework: using music, games, visual, crafts
and cultural activities to fully immerse your child in a
Spanish-speaking environment during each class session.
We hope that though the Espaniños experience your
child will want to continue learning Spanish throughout
his/her life. Many opportunities await foreign language
speaker: opportunities to not only visit Spanish speaking
countries but also to fully experience the culture, to take
courses at the Spanish universities, or take advantage of
study-abroad programs. Speakers of other languages also
have been shown to earn significantly more money in their
careers.
All IH teachers are certified to teach a
foreign language using the communicative approach. Each
child will receive a certificate of completion at the end
of each term and can then be promoted to the next level.
