In 1963 John and Brita Haycraft founded many of the teacher-training courses for which International House has become famous. Successful candidates have access to a large number of schools in the looking for qualified teachers.

There are 21 teacher-training centers within the IH World Organization preparing more candidates than any other organization for the Cambridge-ESOL Certificate and Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults. IH offers a growing range of teacher courses for both entry-level and in-service teachers.

IHC Courses
The International House Certificate in Teaching English Language as a Foreign Language to Adults is a qualification run by International House World. Each course is visited by an external assessor appointed to ensure each program is run to the highest standards set by the University. This highly practical course is aimed at speakers of English as a first language and those who have an equivalent linguistic level, written and spoken.

Refresher Course for Non-Native Teachers
These courses are for teachers whose first language is not English and who are interested in improving their language skills, investigating teaching methodology, and classroom teaching skills. It provides training in practical classroom techniques. Participants should be able to speak and write English above the Cambridge First Certificate level (FCE). Courses currently offered in Portland and Santa Monica.
